Wanted to evaluate returning B1G QBs (11/14 projected starters started 6+ games in '21 - most 11 or more).
Split '21 season into 2 groups: Sept. & Oct/Nov.
Useful for assessing the trajectory of QB's play in '21, separates some of the B.S. non-conference games and places more importance on B1G, meaningful games down the stretch.
QBR has its flaws but it is A) Standardized and B) Easy/Quick to use as proxy for performance.
A few thoughts:
1. Stroud stands above the rest.
2. Is O'Connell good enough to cover for losing Top 3 WRs? I think a step back is likely.
3. Morgan & Mertz among those that were trending up in the last 8 weeks of the season - continued improvement could round out 2 of the top 3 Defenses in B1GWest.
4. Clifford, primarily due to his rib injury, had one of the biggest drop offs from 1st month of season.
5. Taulia probably sits lower than most would expect & really struggled in back half of season. Granted, he was without a couple top WRs for most of '21.
6. Thompson ranks ahead of other 2 transfer QBs but still behind '21 Cornhusker starter, Martinez's 73
