We wrap up B1G Media Days this afternoon. Again, serving as a reliable/predictable proxy for team strengths/player usage/scheme/talent/improved players etc. players that attend B1G Media day are worth knowing at a minimum and should be given extra attention in the role they may player in their team's success this year.
From Wednesday's lineup, I've got to 2 Breakout/Underrated players from today's B1G Media.
QB Sean Clifford (PSU) - A Four Year starter is not your typical breakout player but I think Sean Clifford’s stock is suffering from some recency bias and that in a league that is with a handful of real solid QBs, he is not currently getting the respect he will garner as the season goes on. ‘21 was not an ideal season who, despite have Jahan Dotson to throw to, was battling injuries nearly the whole season and one of the worst O-Lines in the conference. The fact was PSU could not run the ball with their RBs, protecting Clifford was dicey and as a result, everything fell on Clifford’s shoulders. This year he still has a very capable set of WRs and TEs. I expect him to outperform expectations, put up best numbers of his career and keep PSU in the race late into the year.
TE Payne Durham (PUR) -Durham had to battle injuries and the realted issues with consistency throughout the year. Much of his statistical output came from 3 games: the first, last game and @ Wis. With Bell gone to NFL and Wright out of the year, Durham should be O’Connell’s most comfortable returning target. Durham has the size to continue to improve as run blocker but he will be heavily utilized in passing game. Operating in the middle of the field, I expect Durham to make one of the All-B1G teams.
